Scuba Rescue Diver

The NAUI SCUBA RESCUE DIVER course trains divers in the knowledge and skills needed to manage risks and effectively handle limited in-water problems and diving emergencies. Included are: assists, transport, surface rescues and rescues from depth involving both boat and shore based skin and scuba divers. The course meets the prerequisite rescue training for Skin Diving Instructor, NAUI Assistant Instructor, Divemaster and Instructor certification.

Scuba Rescue Diver

Medical Fitness - The student has to be certified medically fit (for diving) by a General Practitioner within the past 12 months (or complete a NAUI Medical Evaluation form). Those who are insulin-dependent diabetics, epileptics, or active asthmatics will not be accepted.
Age - Minimum age is 15 years. (Junior certification for ages 10-14 is available.)
Dive certification - Certified as a NAUI Scuba Diver or equivalent.
Equipment - Student shall furnish and be responsible for the care and maintenance of their own diving equipment.

Scuba Rescue Diver

Our training consists of 3 main phases, namely Academic, Practical and Open Water.

Academic Phase

9 hours of classroom sessions and on-site discussions, covering
- Causes and Prevention of Diving Accidents
  Physical conditioning and physiological factors, stress and physchological factors, stress and panic syndromes in self and others, recognizing distress, pre-dive checks and surface drowning syndromes
- Diving Rescue
  Self rescue, diver assists, surface and underwater rescues, diver transport, in-water rescue breathing, gear removal techniques, boat and shore extrication techniques, first aid applications and oxygen usage
- General Accident Management
  Victim care and positioning, access to emergency transport/assistance and hyprebaric chambers, information collection and transmittal, accident reporting, liability and related legal considerations
Practical Phase

3 hours of confined water sessions to acquire the following skills for rescue:
- Techniques to assist diver simulating leg cramp, loss of buoyancy, exhaustion and pre-panic conditions
- Rescue techniques to retrieve an unconscious diver underwater, perform in-water rescue breathing, remove gear as necessary, towing techniques and extrication techniques
Open Water Phase

The open water phase comprises three dives:
- On the surface, identify the problem and properly assist a completely equipped skin or scuba diver simulating each of the following: muscle cramp, rapid shallow breathing, exhaustion signs of pre-panic and breathing difficulties
- Perform a satisfactory, controlled Scuba Diver Rescue from approximately 20 ft (6m) of water and transport, one-on-one, the simulated victim 50 yards (46m) to shore, boat or platform, removing gear as appropriate for extrication of the victom from the water
- With the aid of one assistant, remove a diver simulating a non-breathing unconscious victim from the water after reaching the water's edge, boat or platform

Scuba Rescue Diver

The NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver course offerred by Mako at SGD $650 includes:

NAUI First Aid & CPR Course, including
- 12 hours of academic and hands-on session
NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver certification card
Approximately three classroom sessions
1 pool session
Usage of scuba equipment (BC and regulator), weights and tanks
Full-board accommodation in Malaysia
Open water training dives in Malaysia
Transport (land & sea transfers)

Fee excludes:

Rental of skin diving equipment (mask/snorkel, fins, wetsuit, weight belt) at SGD $50

Please note:

Your international passport is required to have at least 6 months validity from the date of departure
We need 2 recent passport-sized photographs for our records
An additional surcharge of SGD $30 is applicable if you choose to complete the open water dives in Pulau Tioman
Rates quoted are in Singapore Dollars except the Marine Park Conservation Fee
Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements
We also recommend you bring some Malaysian currency for the RM $5 Marine Park Conservation Fee and for the rest stops along the way and for snacks to share with your newfound friends!

Payment options

Cash, NETS and cheques made payable to Mako Sub-Aquatics are the preferred methods of payment. We would appreciate it if you could make payment on your last classroom session. Thanks!

Cancellation Policy

We require written documentation at least 14 working days prior to the trip departure date. Should you choose to postpone or cancel your trip less than 7 working days before the date of departure, the following charges will apply:

Cancellation received 11-14 working days before departure - 30% of trip
Cancellation received 7-10 working days before departure - 50% of trip
Cancellation received 6 days or less before before departure - 100% charge

Note: The itinerary is subject to change due to conditions beyond the control of the organizer. In the event of any changes, no refund shall be given.
