NAUI Scuba Diver

Scuba Diver is the NAUI entry level scuba certification course. It provides the fundamental knowledge and skills to scuba dive. Upon successful completion of this course, graduates are considered competent to engage in open water diving activities without supervision, provided the diving activities and the areas dived approximate those of training.

Prerequisites 
  1. Medical Fitness – The student has to be certified medically fit (for diving) by a General Practitioner (or complete a NAUI Medical Evaluation form). People who are insulin-dependent diabetics, epileptics, or active asthmatics will not be accepted.
  2. 200-meter Swim – The student has to complete a 200-meter swim in the pool using any stroke, without swimming aids. (Compulsory)
  3. 10 minutes Survival Float – The student has to either float or tread water for 10 minutes without swimming aids. (Compulsory)
  4. 15-meter Underwater Swim – With a single breath, swim under water for 15 meters.
  5. Age - Minimum age for Scuba Diver certification is 15 years. (Students aged 10 to 14 can enroll for Junior Scuba Diver certification.)
Training 

Our training consists of 3 main phases, namely Academic, Practical and Open Water.

  1. Academic Phase

    8 hours of classroom instruction, covering

    • Dive Equipment
    • Diving Physics and Physiology
    • Dive Tables and Decompression Theory
    • Diving Environments
    • Diving Safety
  2. Practical Phase

    6 hours of practical, confined water instruction to acquire essential Scuba skills:

    • Face Mask Clearing
    • Weight Belt Ditch and Don
    • Scuba Unit Removal and Replacement
    • Regulator Clearing and Recovery
    • Buoyancy Control
    • Alternate Air Source Breathing
    • Controlled Emergency Swimming Ascent Drill
    • Skin Diving Techniques
  3. Open Water Phase
    When you are proficient with the necessary skills in a controlled environment, we will then proceed to the open water phase. Here is where the fun really starts! All you have to do is

    • Demonstrate the skills you have been practising in the pool
    • Complete 5 Open Water Scuba Dives to a maximum depth of 18 meters or 60 feet (Or 4 Open Water Scuba Dives and 1 Skin Dive without any underwater breathing apparatus), including basic rescue and navigation techniques.
    • Complete a written test with a score of 75% and above and you are on your way up the Scuba Diver certification ladder!

The NAUI Scuba Diver course offered by Mako at SGD $590 includes:

  • NAUI Scuba Diver certification card

  • Usage of scuba equipment (BC and regulator), weights and tanks

Fee excludes:

  • Rental of skin diving equipment (mask/snorkel, fins, wetsuit, weight belt) at SGD $50

Please note:

  • Your international passport must have at least 6 months' validity prior to the date of departure
  • We need 2 recent passport-sized photographs for our records
  • An additional surcharge of SGD $30 is applicable if you choose to complete the open water dives in Pulau Tioman
  • Rates quoted are in Singapore Dollars except the Marine Park Conservation Fee
  • Please advise if you have any special dietary requirements
  • We also recommend you bring some Malaysian currency for the Marine Park Conservation Fee (RM $5), for the rest stops along the way and for snacks to share with your newfound friends!

Payment options

Cash, NETS and cheques made payable to Mako Sub-Aquatics are the preferred methods of payment. We would appreciate it if you could make payment on your last classroom session. Thanks!

Cancellation Policy

We require written documentation of at least 14 working days prior to the trip departure date. Should you choose to postpone or cancel your trip less than 7 working days before the date of departure, the following charges will apply:

  • Cancellation received 11-14 working days before departure - 30% of trip
  • Cancellation received 7-10 working days before departure - 50% of trip
  • Cancellation received 6 days or less before before departure - 100% charge

Note: The trip itinerary is subject to change due to conditions beyond the control of the organizer. In the event of any changes, no refund shall be given.
