Divemaster
The NAUI DIVE MASTER rating is the first level NAUI leadership certification. This course is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to organize and conduct safe and enjoyable open water dives for certified divers. A NAUI divemaster is also qualified to organize and conduct NAUI Recognition and Experience Programs and award appropriate recognition materials to participants; as well as assist a NAUI instructor in diving courses.
Divemaster
- Medical Fitness - The student has to be certified medically fit (for diving) by a General Practitioner within the past 12 months (or complete a NAUI Medical Evaluation form). Those who are insulin-dependent diabetics, epileptics, or active asthmatics will not be accepted.
- Age - Minimum age is 18 years.
- Dive certification - Certified as a NAUI Master Scuba Diver and NAUI Scuba Rescue Diver or their equivalent. Divers with evidence of equivalent training and experience may be enrolled after passing the NAUI Master Scuba Diver written examination with a minimum score of 75%.
- Experience - Documentation of diving experience with a minimum of 50 logged open water dives. Dives should be varied in environment, depth and activities.
- First Aid & CPR - Current certification or verified competency in CPR and First Aid is required.
Divemaster
Our training consists of 3 main phases, namely Academic, Practical and Open Water.

Academic Phase
Estimated 20 hours of classroom sessions and on-site discussions, covering the knowledge needed to conduct and organize open water dives as a Divemaster with minimal risk. Practical, on-site demonstrations by the instructor or staff will be presented whenever possible. The Divemaster candidate will be given in-depth exposure to the following areas:
- NAUI Standards and Procedures
- Divemaster Duties
- Divemaster Legal Responsibilities
- Shore Diving and Boat Diving
- Emergency Procedures
- Night and Limited Visibility Diving
- Open Water Rescue
- Deep and Decompression Diving
- Underwater Environment
- Equipment

Practical Phase
Estimated 10 hours of confined and open water sessions for the following skills:
- Swimming skills
- Skin Diving skills
- Rescue skills
- Scuba skills (both in confined and open water)
- Rescue techniques to retrieve an unconscious diver underwater, perform in-water rescue breathing, remove gear as necessary, towing techniques and extrication techniques

Open Water Phase
A combination of diving and divemastering for a total of 10 open water dives is required involving on-site instruction, demonstrations by the course director and Divemaster candidate performance. "Performing as a Divemaster" does not necessarily require that the Divemaster candidate complete a particular dive as defined in these standards to meet the learning objective for the activity.
Divemaster
The Divemaster course offered by Mako at SGD $750 includes:
- Eight classroom sessions
- Three pool sessions
- Two on-the-job training attachment trips to Malaysia
